This is my vegetable garden in mid March. Looking pretty good I think. Probably the best ever for this time of year but I wish I had tidied up before I took it. Still a pile of pots to wash from last year, in the old wheelbarrow.

I do try and have something growing all year round. It's supposed to be better for the soil and of course you get things to eat. I have some purple sprouting brocolli which is over on the left in front of the greenhouse and some perpetual spinach which I love. Oh and leeks which I have managed to save from the leek moth. The bed on the left at the front is full of seelings, cuttings etc which need to be moved. I used to keep them all in pots but they do better in the ground and I don't forget to water them.

I have some spinach and beetroot seedlings just about ready to plant out, but nothing overwintered here this year. My plot is so shaded and cold in the winter. I have overwintered broad beans in the past, just the young plants. That worked well. I don't have room for brassicas sadly, I tried, but they just took up too much space. My courgettes are growing proper leaves now though! They'll soon be ready to pot on. And not long now before I can sow some peas direct.....ah, fresh, sweet little peas from the pod straight in to my tum!! :))

Yum. I am hoping to have peas, sugarsnap and mangetout. I thought it was warming up but tonight is very cold so I should probably hold off sowing for a few more weeks. Meanwhile I have lots starting off inside. Lots more seeds to sow but just need the time to do it.

Yes, I'm sure you're right about the sowing. April can be really cold sometimes...brrrrr!

looking like a very nice patch, I spy with my little eye a pallet composter ; )

Yes you do, two in fact. The second one is new this year. It's not very clear in the photo. I am in the process now of emptying the first one and then i'll turn the other. We also have a pallet fence just in front of the dalek bin in the foreground and a tree house which is in the distance in my other picture. Pallet duck board in the greenhouse and some of the edges are pallets but they do rot quickly.

i hope to increase my vegetable plot with more raised beds just like yours, it looks great.

It's definitely a good idea. It breaks the area up into manageable chunks and helps with rotation. I look forward to seeing pictures. Glad you are enjoying your new hobby!

I can tell you’re a passionate gardener. Look brilliant. Your garden looks huge!

It is my favourite part, I think, Homebird. It's much more overgrown now though and needs taking in hand. I have been away and busy so not keeping up to date with things. Things will slow down now so I can get on top of it.
Thanks Sue. It is quite big but I think the photo makes it look bigger than it really is. I never have enough space to fit things in in spring but then too much to look after in August!
