I think they came to check out the cracked corn we leave for the squirrels and birds.

LOL...Sticki..thanks for the chuckle. riding a bike??? lol...
I think the "long thin track" is the marks of their tail feathers... as part of their mating display the Tom fans those lovely long feathers ...gubble..gubble..gubble..They sound as strange as they look!
Hi Sheila...yes they are a mated pair. So hopefully we'll be seeing the display. With turkeys the males are the more attractive...females are quite plain.
Hi Hywel...They are the originals ...the Pilgrim fathers learned how to survive by watching them...and eating them too, no doubt. They've been re-introduced here in Canada and they are thriving in the wild. Don't expect they will be a nuisance in the garden...

Urgh !!! I'd hate to see them. I'm glad you don't think they'll be a nuisance.

i wondered about the tail feathers trailing but i thought turkey's tails were more like a fan that stood upright?

They are pretty shy of us at present, Hywel.
They are fanned only when the Toms are displaying for the ladies, Sticki.... But when Tom and the missus are at home they are folded low.
