The foals are sweet and nippy Paul! But the Mum is as gentle as can be, for me who is scared of 'osses!

I am not keen going near bigger animals - but like to watch them :)

nor am I Paul, I used to ride as a kid but these are thoroughbreds and can be a bit naughty! I like to watch them from BEHIND the fence!!

I always remember a girl at school stood behind one - gosh she got kicked - it was horrid but she was okay

Oh I know those stories. A friend has her nose nearly kicked off 2 months ago and now she looks fine, thanks to Frenchay hospital! Thats why I stay well away! I must admit most horses wouldn't dream of hurting anyone, it's usually by mistake.

yes just defensive

Don't think it's defensiveness, it's just they spurt around and sometimes a human is in the way! The time they really can be defensive is a maiden mare with her first foal!

The lady in the house behind ours is wheel-chair bound following a horse riding accident. She's mid-Fifties now and the accident happened just before her 40th birthday. So very, very sad as she adored riding her horse. It was just one of those accidents where the horse got 'spooked' and she landed in a terrible way. I can't get near a horse, no reason, just don't trust them. Nice to look at them from afar!

Sorry to hear of that accident Shirley, I shall carry on looking at them from far as well. My folkes both had bad falls and paid the price although not wheelchair bound, just!

There was a fantastic Shire Horse who lived in a field near to where I used to live some 15 years or so ago. He was a simply majestic creature who would come to the fence to let you stroke his nose. The odd carrot and apple was relished as well.
