Climbing ladders gets harder when you are nearing 50! My friend said to me well if i fell off I could alway hang onto the climer, well yes, cut to ribbons! Anyway, I survived to tell the tale! This cut back will make it easier to control in the future and I have to cut back mine tomorrow!!

that looked very hard going - I wasn't aware they grew that tall - thought they stopped at 9 ft

oooh no, they grow huge! Never been scared of heights but it can come with age, I was a little more careful than I might have been in my 20's or 30's! But quite a satisfying job done today.

Hard work but they are so well worth the effort.

They are so well worth the effort. I planted a couple at the front of our cottage, it gets only 2 hours sun but still puts on a fine display even though they are still quite young and small, after that job, I will keep mine well under control!

Good Idea. The birds love them as well..which is always a bonus.

They do indeed!

I admire you for tackling that job, Lulu. I struggle to balance on steps at Mums to keep hers in shape. It's on a wall of the porch & has to be kept clear of the guttering and shaped around a small window. Hateful job!

I am all covered in scratches Shirley!
Glad I drank the presant of wine after the job was done Lol!

Even picking up the prunings is a tricky job ... so many thorns on them! I'm glad you drank after and not before, Lulu! : o ))

Keep finding scratches in the oddest of places Shirley!
Pruned mine yesterday!
Am loving this sunshine today and yesterday, am having to coaxe my way from the garden for a few days going to see folkes up north:0)
