Chive seedlings

Hubby started these chives in half egg-shell pots.

What an imaginutive, thing to do with eggshells! I've never seen seeds grown in them before! All part of the recycling process, brilliant!

I know, right! Hubby says he did it because it was cheap, the environmental aspect is just an added perk! hahaha. This is the first year we are trying it. Hubby got the idea last year or the year before. That is how my mom's neighbor would bring her seedling plants. She shared everything when she thinned or divided. Actually, half of the plants in my yard are from her. Here's how we did it: Rinse and let dry after breaking. Put a small hole in the bottom for draining. Then when time to plant, just lightly crush the egg shell a bit in your palm. It'll add calcium to the soil too, which'll really help the chives. Plan on trying my tomatoes this way if the chives are successful. Oh, also, the lid can work as a "greenhouse" dome. I'll definitely let all my friends on GoY know how they work. Or... if anybody has tried it before, can you let me know how it worked for you?!?

Tell your Mum's neighbour, to go to the top of the class, she's a very clever girl! What a lovely gift, sharing her seedlings, very generous! Look forward to hearing how your tomatoes grow! Good Luck!
