This one of several large cacti growing in the Galapagos Tortoise Area. Photo taken March 26, 2011.

They were walking in another area. This area is pretty large now, it was just expanded a couple months ago. :>)

Oh, these cacti are small compared to some genera which can grow much, much taller.

Some species of cacti can grow to 60ft/18m tall in CA.

Yes, this one is pretty large, however, I've seen them much larger. There's one in the San Francisco Bay Area where I used to live. It's more than 60ft/18m tall...and probably more than 100 years old.

That is old amazing how they survive that long.

The Saguaro cactus native to extreme south-east California, Arizona and Mexico and lives for hundreds of years..it only grows 1/2 to 1 inch a year.
