the snow is receding so slowly...but I'm finally seeing the lay of the land.

good eye, W'lass! the area in the foreground is riddled with gopher holes...the foxes would come and dig up the area as soon as the thaw started. It's a right good mess!
think I'll ask one of the locals who has a front end loader to help re arrange the terrain...then I'm going to check out water control on the net...see what I can find about polders!

OK....now you've got to fill me in, Lori....what are polders?
A front end loader sounds like the right tool for the job of rearranging the soil levels/terrain. Roll on spring & the thaw, eh?
They've had some more snow a couple of days ago in St. Catharine's, much to our son's dismay. But it all melted through the day, thankfully. Hope you soon have some ground that isn't frozen and you can begin with all your plans. They sound so good :)

Hi W'lass...I was thinking about the reclaimed land in the Netherlands...but more specifically about how to reroute and contain water flow.
St. Catharines and area is more southerly than we are here, for a change the south got the bad weather and we only got a few flakes...it's still cold for April tho...then again, April is usually a very changeable time.
I've been working on spring cleanup...fire regulations say I can't burn off the dead grass and weeds so I have to rake and compost them...and that is a very labour-intensive job...I could burn it off and enrich the soil with the ash in a few hours...but no, I have to rake, pile and turn the compost heap! I have to wonder who came up with that gem of reasoning.
