I wish it would be the most famous BG in the world, but I guess it is not...
The Kew Garden is the most famous.
It is certainly famous in Brazil.
And Gosh!!! I'm old... can you believe 46 years ago when I first go to the Rio's BG, all I could remember from that time was the main entrance with those magnificent palms trees, and they were already more than 46 yo when i was there for first :S

Jardim Botânico gardens is a world-famous tropical gardens.

The world-famous tropical (subtropical) gardens are: Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Florida; Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney; Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden, Thailand; Singapore Botanic Gardens, Singapore; (these are just a few).

The San Diego Zoo is even a famous world-class botanical garden...the trees and plants are insured for more than the animals, believe-it-or-not.

Regarding the extremely tall Roystonea oleracea - Caribbean Royal Palms at Jardim Botânico...many were planted about 200 years ago. They are very old and well-known by members in the International Palm Society! (which I originally joined back in 1984)

So you probably know that all those Royal Palms are original from just one?

" A 750 m line of 134 palms forms the Avenue of Royal Palms leading from the entrance into the gardens. These palms all descended from a single tree, the Palma Mater, long since destroyed by lightning."

Yes, I know about the Palma Mater...it's too bad it was destroyed by lightning! However, it's very common for very tall palms to be struck by lightning in places which receive a lot of thunderstorms, like Florida.

Yeah Florida is the land of lightnings....we are becoming the same here :(
We had a night long storm with winds and lightnings...
Even my father in law, who is 87yo, said he never saw a storm last that long.

Actually, all the southern and eastern states of the U.S. have lots of thunderstorms. Here in the the coastal western states we very rarely have thunderstorms (we have the prevailing westerly winds which keeps our weather very stable, most of the time).

The weather in the last year or so has been so very strange! I can't remember having such erratic weather here...and I've been reading it's all over the world.

You are right, all over the world the weather is showing its bad face.
Unfortunatlely our birds and bees have a more accurate sensory system. The episode in USA with the death of those bids is not isolated it has to do with the tsunami in Japan... all this oil extraction is moving the tectonic plates and producing unstability of the planet, at the same time the sun emssions are longer and stronger.

About three weeks ago, suddenly in the morning, the students found a thousand bees dead on the gorund at the University. The Biology center took some for investigation and couldnt not find anything that could be a reason for their death... now we had this electrical storm for more than 12h in a row...
It certainly catch our attention that something is going wrong with the blue planet

Yes, something is definitely going on with the weather and planet. Not sure what it is, though. Possibly a combinations of many factors, natural and man-caused.

Well I think Mother Earth will destroy us before we her! But (gratefully) unless it happens in the next 10 or so years I wont be here to see it.

I agree with your thought, we are just an inconvenient species and mother nature will change us in some way.... :o)

Actually i think the "knowledge" did us any good, hopefully the next human category will come across as naive as birds :)

Then we will be able to enjoy this planet in its magnificence.
