You seem to have made good choices with some evergreens for year round cover and herbaceous perennials to give summer interest. Because I started with small plants, I had big gaps between the plants which I filled with annuals and biennuals to tide me over until the plants spread out. I also used cheap perennials and shrubs like ribes and forsythia from the supermarket which I knew I could discard later.
