Oh dear, I can see from this that the lawn was in need of some TLC. I found out this spring that the moss had taken over almost completely and I'm in the process of trying to bring it back to some semblance of a grass lawn. Unfortunately lawn is not as exciting as plants and shrubs!

Thanks for all the lovely comments. I am lucky that I inherited a number of large trees, which gives the garden structure. I'm now working on a veg plot in the bit behind the willow tree. I was given a book called planting companions. It gives a list of good planting companions and bad ones. Unfortunately I have planted potatoes next to a bramley apple tree that I bought last year. Apparently potatoes and apples are bad plant companions so it will be interesting to see whether I get any apples or pots this year. Trying to keep everything happy is going to be difficult, especially if I have to include crop rotation. Hmmm... not sure how that's going to work!

fantastic garden ,maybe the trees are takeing all the water thats why the lawns a little brown ?, in my feeders i only feed sunflower hearts & niger seperately for the goldfinches ,each saturday i make up coconut halves with dripping (or lard ) melted down with raisins crushed peanuts & seeds the long tailed tits (14) come every night for these ,each spring the woodpeckers come on the proper coconut they feed the chicks on this ,i dont know if its a good or bad thing , but everything goes crazy for the hearts ,even robins ,cheers

Lovely garden.. I like the willow arching over the beds and the curved borders willing you to walk around and see whats on the other side..

For a fair-weather gardener you have made your garden a beautiful space. I hope you can get the grass into shape. I am just about to have turf laid in our back garden so I'll be reading up on care of a new lawn...a learning curve!

It will be interesting to see what crops you get from your apple tree and your spuds...hope you get a good crop of both :)

Oh...and welcome to GoY...great place and great people.
