Cenaurea Amethyst on Ice

I have the plain old purple one which really get on my nerves but they serve a purpose (for now!!!), I couldn't resist this as the colour is amazing! Religiously dead heading as I don't want these springing up all over the place.

Does this one attract more insects than the purple ones? why do they get on your nerves?

Hi Fran - the purple ones get on my nerves because they pop up everywhere!! I got a tiny little cutting from my neighbours garden - just to fill out a space - 4 years later I'm still trying to get rid of it! In fact - I just noticed another clump coming up in my fern garden yesterday!!
I can't say I notice how much thep purple ones attract the insects as I'm always trying to get rid of it and I don't let it flower. But this one for sure attracts plenty :)

nods, "presents" from next door aren't always welcome; can you block it off? when i thought I'd be able to use my beds, I dug down and put a black hin bag along the border and then filled it in, leaving a bit of bag out and tying it to the bottom of the fence to make a barrier.

of course, that won't take out what you've already got! but if you can put a barrier up, it'll stop more coming in. Then "all" you have to is to get rid of the ones that've already moved in.

I get quite a lot 'coming' in from next door - I have a small gap at the bottom of the fences now so I can get the hoe right under and get rid!!!

a lot of tehm come underground, which is why the thing i read said any shileding should go at least 18" down; they said paving slabs on edge, leave a bit above the surface. I'd been thinking more in the lines of corrugated plastic sheets, or stuff like that; would cover both underground and the gap at the bottom of the fence - but it would mean diging a trench to lay it, which would be a pain if you already have plants growing there.

always gets me about garden books; they never have neighours in those books, never talk about how to repel boarders, and never seem to mind putting trees right against the boundary so half of it would overhang next door ... they must live in vacuums

Thanks GG - sadly it's gone to the great composter in the sky - whilst it is gorgeous - the mildew was really getting on my nerves :))
