Trachycarpus fortunei - Windmill Palm

Trachycarpus fortunei - Windmill Palm (Trachycarpus fortunei - Windmill Palm)

I gave this palm to my friends a little more than 10 years ago. It was only a little 1ft/31cm tall palm and now it's about 25ft/7.6m tall. Photo taken in Palomares Canyon in the San Francisco Bay Area on May 18, 2011.

Pretty fast for a Windmill--it must like them! : )

I do know Palm Society members have grown this palm from gallon size to this height in half the amount of time. This palm responds very well to heavy watering and fertilizing.

It looks very good

It rarely grows more than 6 inches a year here in the desert, Delonix.

Tugbrethil:

This palm doesn't make a good desert palm. I know it prefers cooler and wetter conditions.

Well, that accounts for the 50 year old one at my doctor's office. It looks healthy, but it's only about 20 feet tall!

That's definitely small for a 50 year old tree. I think an average size 50 year old tree here would be about 50ft/16m tall.
