It does looks a nice plant. I can never get my Clematis to stay attached to anything - the weight of it and the slightest breeze seems to make it fall off (even with string)

Thanks Kildermorie...I used to have this problem but what I do now is put wires horizontally along the fence over the face of the trellis...its not perfect but it works. I gently twist the odd leaf round the wire, then they take hold themselves. It works most of the time!!! Those little wire rings are good, they just help hold things in place until they are strong enough to grip on their own.
I would imagine that everybody has a different method and what works for one will not work for another. The only down side to the way I do it is that they never look natural enough for my liking.

Its nice and dark and contrasts beautifully with the Clematis Peppermint.

Like the arrangement.
Did you buy the clematis already potted, as it is good to plant your clematis 6 inches lower than the original soil height so that it doesnt suffer from clematis wilt.
I have had one or two die on me. But I now plant mine deeper than the original pot height.
Also cut out any brown foliage back to new growth just after a joint. This will encourage new bud growth.

Thanks for the advice LKM, yes, I have learned that lesson in the past too!!! They are now in the border and planted a wee bit deeper again, so hopefully that will help. There are a couple of bit of brown foliage which I will get round to. I just want to leave it to settle in AGAIN!! before I start fiddling around with them.
I will get another pic online soon. Cheers Angie x
