Persea americana - Avocado Tree

Persea americana - Avocado Tree (Persea americana - Avocado Tree)

There's so many giant avocado trees in Mission San Jose, Fremont (San Francisco Bay Area). These trees have purple avocados which are so buttery and delicious. Photo taken on June 3, 2011.

Marguerite:

Yes, even though San Diego County is the capital avocado growing region of the U.S. The San Francisco Bay Area has some of the largest and oldest beautiful trees and interesting varieties I've ever seen.

You're welcome. :>)

I love avocados, also. Luckily, they're very inexpensive here.

I bet there's many large, old avocado trees there, also.

Never seen purple ones. Didn't realise San Diego was the main growing area, now every time I eat Avocado, i'll think of you Lol. :o))

Marguerite:

Some parts of the year avocados can be a little more expensive (I think many are being exported). This even though they're produced all year here (depending on variety). My favorite avocado variety is the very large 'Reed'. It ripens in late summer and has a creamy-buttery taste. It so delicious!!! YUM, YUM! :>)

Lindalooloo:

The purple and black varieties usually have the richest, buttery tasting meat. They're so, so delicious.!

San Diego County produces the most avocados in the U.S., however, I don't know the percentage of the world's avocados are grown in the U.S.

Will have to look out for the purple and black varieties. Will check where ours come from too. Don't know what the exchange rate is, but I've been paying in sterling between 50/75pence for mine.

Marguerite:

I like the 'Hass' variety, also. This time of year sometimes I can buy 5 or 6 for one U.S. dollar.

Lindalooloo:

I can almost bet you won't find the purple or black varieties for sale there. For some reason these varieties are usually only sold locally to where they are grown.

Marguerite:

When I lived in Mission San Jose, Fremont in the San Francisco Bay Area I used to have a huge 40ft/12m tall avocado tree. I used to have bags of avocados...and I gave bags of them away. I really miss having a large, very productive avocado tree.

Lindalooloo:

I'm not a she, I'm a he. lol! :>)

Large avocado trees can produce hundreds of avocados. It's good for the neighbor's (who like avocados, anyway). lol!

Oh No!!!! Lol. hahaha hehehe. I am sooooo sorry. Didn't even think about you being male. Hi I'm Linda, very pleased to meet you Mr Man :o))

That's okay...GoY doesn't have the little male and female icons anymore. So now, it's anyone's guess. lol! :>)

Hi 'Andy',
I've been scrolling through your pics, and noticed comments made by Sixpence and Milky, referring to you as 'Andy'. Hope I'm correct. :o))

Lindalooloo:

Yes, that's my name. :>)

17 Jun, 2011

Hello Andy. :o)
I only joined GoY in May 2010, and I didn't know about the Icons, so they must have stopped them before I joined. :o))

17 Jun, 2011

Yes, I think it was back last year sometime...when they stopped the icon.

18 Jun, 2011

Well, I thought Bamboo was a he, and turned out she was a 'she' Lol.
thought the same about Terratoonie too. hehehe ;o))

They should think about bringing back the female, male icons. Maybe I should message Peter (one of the original creators of GoY) about this issue. :>)

18 Jun, 2011

I think that would be a good idea. Wonder why they stopped doing the icons. As I said, I didn't know about icons, and it can be difficult when a lot of Goy friends use flowers or plants on their Avatar. :o)
