Is it the producer of that that aromatic Bay leaves?Lucky you.We buy them from stores, all dry and we gererally use them in chicken and mutton curries.

I hope it is the one Camillia, that is what we bought it for. We have already used some leaves in a curry. I had better read the label as I saw one bay tree for sale and there was a note on it which said "for decorative purposes only and not to be used in cooking!"

Nice tree. I believe Laurus Nobilis is the edible one. We have one and I put a few leaves in soups and stews. Actually, didn't know there was a non edible one.

I didn't know there was a non-edible one either Linda. I have been trawling the internet to see what the difference is and couldn't find anything on it.

Just re-read your previous comment Richard, about the one for decoration only, and being you can't find any info on it, just wondered if maybe, it was an artificial tree, (not meaning to sound funny), but we went for a meal a couple of weeks ago, in a rather posh restaurant for Hubbys birthday, and they had Olive trees (restaurant was called Grape and Olive). From where we were sitting, I thought they were real, and only when we were leaving, (to satisfy my curiousity), I actually went to feel it, and still couldn't tell the difference. Only after squeezing one of the Olives, could I tell it was artificial. My Daughter and Son-in-Law were hysterical, as I was a Florist for many years, and had sold both Olive and Bay trees. :o))

Thanks Linda some artificial trees and flowers look so good now you have a job to tell the difference. A friend of mine laid some artificial grass on someone's lawn who had a dog and was always getting yellow patches on the grass. Hopefully this will do the trick. My plant is a real one Linda, it has sprouted a few new leaves. Thanks for the suggestion though that is one thing I can eliminate in my quest to find out more about it :-)

Lol. Richard. Hope I didn't offend you by suggesting the other bay for sale might have been artificial. I don't know, there could possibly be a bay that IS not edible. These Olive trees in the restaurant, weren't just looking real, their trunks were so realistic too, plus they were planted in pots with genuine soil. Downstairs they had Buxus and Box, that had been shaped into balls and ovals, and again so realistic, I had to go feel them as well. Lol.:o))

No I was not offended at all Linda and thank you for the suggestion. I wasn't aware that you could get a bay tree that you couldn't use the leaves in cooking. Take a look at this link (hope you can see it) if not maybe you can paste it into the address bar at the top.:-

Richard, I have just looked on the link you gave, and I honestly don't know why they say it's for decoration only, or why they've said it's not to be used for cooking. As I said before, I used to sell them, and as far as I knew, they were edible. I have no idea why Aldi has stated this. ??? :o))

I have no idea either Linda it seems strange doesn't it. We didn't buy ours from Aldi but it started me wondering..thanks for your comments and help anyway. I guess I would have to contact Aldi to find out :-)

They probably would'nt know. They've maybe just stated that to cover themselves. :o)
