Ficus thonningii - Wild Fig Trunk

This is the trunk with all the aerial roots of the Wild Fig native to the Congo Region of Africa. It's an epiphytic strangler and grows to become a gigantic tree here to more than 75ft/23m tall. I have Wild Figs I need to sell...it's difficult to keep it in a pot because its root will grow into the ground like most other Ficus species. This is a relatively small trunk. It can have a much larger trunk with even more aerial roots.

Yes, very true! Ficus (species) trees become absolutely massive. They have one of the largest root systems of any known tree in the world. Very large, old Ficus trees cause many problems here in CA. It's a very beloved tree, however, has to be strategically placed.

Ficus species are considered truly the wonders of the Plant-kingdom.

Some of the Ficus species grow in our subtropical climate as large as in their native tropical lands...however, some species grow so much larger in the wet tropics.
