Nice plant...

It's fragrant, although I'm unsure as to whether it's pleasantly fragrant or not......

Meanie:

Great photo!

It this plant growing in a greenhouse?

This shrub is very widely grown here...most plants from Madagascar seem to grow very well in most of California (especially SoCal).

Thanks Delonix!
Yes, it is indoors....

Meanie:

I'm guessing it grows outside, also...correct?

24 Jun, 2011

I think that it may be a little borderline as far as our climate goes.

MeanieL.

From what I've read it's hardy down to -6.6 °C (20 °F). That's pretty darn hardy!

24 Jun, 2011

It seems to depend upon where you read it! I've seen as low as minus 5, but others that say zero. However you look at it, it would have been stuffed at the minus 18 that we had last winter!!!

Meanie:

Plant hardiness is such a complex science. There's so many factors which affect the plants such as: dry or humid cold, duration of cold, wet or dry soil or if plants or hardened off or not...and it goes on and on.

Non-hardened off plants can freeze or be damaged by cold at many, many degrees above its normal hardiness.

A complex science with a fair bit of luck chucked in too maybe.......

Meanie:

Very true! You have to take into account the genetic factor of the specific plant, also.

And that too.
