Mock Orange?

Well yes, it is and I still don't have a clue. Put it on as a question Mum...I'm dying to know what it is!

Constancespry says it could be - Philadelphus 'Burfordensis' I checked it out and some of the sites say it is perfumed, but this certainly is not. I am still confused as to which it is.

I think its mock orange Oliveoil, i had one and it wasn't perfumed either, was supposed to be!

It certainly looks like a philadelphus doesn't it.

Yes Youngdaisydee this was supposed to be perfumed, it is lovely but would be so much better if there was perfume.

Yes Karen I was almost certain that it was but I am hopeless with names of plants.

You only prune half of it one year and the other half the next year as you dont get flowers after its been pruned! So if you prune all of it in spring, it wont flower untill the next year!!! Mine got to big oliveoil, so we dug it out..

thanks Youngdaisydee that is how I do this one and yes it is nearly too big for me here, but now that it has decided to flower so well I will not prune it I shall leave it and let it do its own thing. It is in a place where it doesn't matter how big it gets really. Well within reason I suppose!! It is alongside a field hedge of hawthorn, holly and blackthorn (sloe tree) so it can add to the appearance of the hedgerow. lol. It has been there for donkeys years, tried pruning tried leaving it but for some reason it has done remarkably well this year, think all the blossom trees have though, must be something to do with the very cold winters we have had, it has somehow made them kick into action.

I looked up the pruning of these as I have 'Belle Etoile' with the red centre. They say you should prune them immediately after flowering so the new growth can bear flowers the following year. I'm going to prune mine this year, as it's getting awfully leggy and I want it a bit more compact....we'll see how it fares!

this one is beginning to meet the wild rose on the arch over the long concrete path, think I will leave it this year and then see how it grows into the hedge and over the path before I decide how to cut it/trim it.

When i had mine, I tried always to prune it, I went by the label instructions, then i tried it my way! in the end it still got to big for the border,,im happy yours has enough room Oliveoil, thats what they need. Good luck with yours Karen, hope it is full of flowers next year :))

I'm thinking of removing it now Daisy...and sending it south to Oliveoil! It's awfully big and sprawly for the little border its in...that's the trouble with these...they sprawl a bit too much for a tidy garden!
