Oleander

Really lovely...

This one is, actually, my favourite...I love the colour. It's quite unusual.

Meadowland, I love it, it's the colour of New Zealand butter...perhaps you could try them in pots until they're a bit more established...we have seriously cold winters here, although, generally, they're shorter...

I'm having problems with my dog eating the Orleander leaves!!!! He was really sick a few weeks ago, then again last week. Thinking of getting rid of all of them.....and I have way too many.

Heavens! I wonder why he does that?...deliberately to be sick, do you think? I expect that oleanders do really well for you, A...what would you replace them with? You could have all sorts of lovely things... :))

I think he just gets bored and chews on anything he can find....he chewed his dog house...yes, he is a strange pup. There is an Oleander right over his dog house...my hubby is taking care of it this evening.

They do really well for me here...they self seed all over the garden. I read an article that states that even burning the branches are toxic. We have always burned them...we live to tell the tale.

I have no idea what I'm going to replace them with...It won't be done until October anyway....not much time for the garden now. Stuck at the shops and August is the peak of our season.

I had no idea that they were poisonous at all...and like you am still around! lol! Perhaps I should be more careful...

I saw something you'd really like, today, at the market...I am just trying to figure out where I can put one - and then I'm going back to get it!!! It's called Hibiscus de Marais (will try and find out the botanical name and let you know)...Big beautiful flowers, perennial, same sort of size as oleander - but much faster grower...

Planting at this time of year is really difficult anyway and I would imagine that the heat here is nothing compared to Corfu...

Ah, really nice. I bought one last year and it grew and grew and was loaded with buds and then one morning it just started wilting and the whole plant died by the next morning. I was really p----- off. I was really exciting about it blooming. Oh well.

I knew Oleander was poisonous when we put the dog's house near it but I really thought dogs would know not to chew on it. My mistake. We can't move him now because it's way too hot and this Oleander is huge....he needs the shade.

Like you...before I knew this plant was poisonous...we all use to handle it like any other safe plant. Go figure. Now I warn the kids, not just about Oleander but I tell them to handle all plants with care because they can't know which is safe and which is not.

I've just been reading that these Hibiscus need a lot of water...maybe not such a good plant for you - especially in August...
