These plants were given the chelsea chop after suffering a battering from the kittens when they first went out too play....have grown back better that they were!

Do they? I dont have a clue what type of soil I have. My rhoddies all do well. Camellias not so good. Hydrangea is purple, neither blue nor pink. I should really look into this.
They must be pretty happy since they have bounced right back :)

Sounds like you might have the same soil as me...neutral to slightly acid. I feed my rhodys and camellias every year. My Hydrangea is in a pot. My verbascum comes back every year but never really thrives or gets bigger, so I'm going to lime it from now on, along with my Hellebores.
