I've got several packs of different sunflower seeds. Never seem to get around to planting them; wasn't sure if I'd have enough room. *s* but there's some great encouragement! how tall is it?

ps what size pot is it in? and did you start it in that pot or start it small and move it up as it grew?

It must be about 60-70cm tall! It's in a 10cm pot approx. It was a self sown seedling - nothing to do with me! The seed must have fallen in the compost, when I was potting up the Carnation it's sharing the pot with, in the greenhouse on the allotment. I've not touched it! Anyway Sunflowers are not "partial" to transplanting!

wow, tht's even better, a free gift. and if you save some of the seeds you'll have a future supply.

wasn't sure about transplanting, i have biodegradable pots for seeding, perhaps that won't count if i bury that into a bigger pot when the seedling[s] are big enough

Biodegradable pots are fine as long as you start the seeds off in them & plant out - or into a bigger pot - when you see the roots starting to come out the sides be sure to transplant them!

nods, i bought them for that reason, so as not to disturb the roots on sensitive plants. I'll have to haul out my stash of seeds and check planting times - some of the packs are years old, but still sealed, so they might be okay, but as usual, only one way to find out.

I did grow a sunflower at work; my "garden" there was the size of a paving slab because that's what had been taken up and not replaced - *s* I made the front cover of the local paper with it - we reckoned it to be about 15 feet tall (still 10 feet short of the world record, I phoned Guinness to ask!). I kept the cutting - as usual, it's "somewhere safe"!

That's where many of us keep the things we want to keep for another day! It's certainly the safest place I know of as nothing ever gets lost there! LOL! :-D)

there's an old English proverb "keep a thing for seven years and you will find a use for it".

My own version is: "you never find a use for something until the day after you finally throw it out"

That's always the way, isn't it? LOL!
