Dierama 'Guinevere' - 2011

I love blackbird on my to buy list, our pink one showing no signs of life as yet!!

What a cracking Diarama. does it flower like that every year? mine has yet to flower. Amberqueen.

Amber - this is the first year it has flowered. They can take a bit of time to settle down

Ive never been successful with these.

Tetrarch - you have to be very patient with these - they will only flower when they think they have their corms at the right depth (note to self - haven't seen dierama dracomontanum this year - winter casualty?)

I bought it already potted up from a stately garden that grew them near a pond Andrew. I chose a cool dampish corner but it just shrunk and then disappeared. Tried another from a nursery, tried a slightly different place, but that didnt show either! Maybe underground slugs!?

Tetrarch - they come from South Africa where they have moisture in the growing season but dry winters; they dislike waterlogged conditions in our winters. I have planted them in full sun with plenty of humus incorporated in what is otherwise a dry part of the garden

Nice to see a fine example. I grew mine from seed, set them out last Summer and lost them all last Winter. Trying again though.

No wonder I lost them! Well I will try again cos they are lovely slim plants and I can pop them in between stuff. I love how they nod in the breeze.

That's a lovely one Andrew. Glad you mentioned that they take some time to settle, because mine (and a friend's) have yet to flower . . . they're in their second year.

I have 20 or so varieties around my garden and find them easy to grow. They are in a slightly acidic soil which drains freely but also retains some moisture. The only one I have had difficulty growing from seed is Blue Belle and although I have tried three or four times I have been unsuccessful. I don't know what yours is but it is not Guinevere.

No . . . Andrew does add under the photo that it's not Guinevere, but an 'unknown' variety . . .
