Bird's Nest Fungus

I discovered some Bird's Nest fungus under my red hibiscus yesterday. It's a favorite fungus. They are little cups that first have a white covering that wares off to expose its "eggs" which are tiny spore cases. When it rains the spore cases eventually splash out and the spores are spread. This fungus grows on decayed wood. I usually find several little colonies in my garden growing on old mulch.

Amazing...so much to see in mulch! and how crafty of the fungus? is it shaped like that just to catch water or do they need incubation? never knew crucibuli existed til now! thanks for the education, Di.
