No more conifers!

No more conifers!

The large conifers at the back have been taken down! So much more light in the garden but it feels smaller somehow? A definite improvement.

Looks good, what plans do you have for it?

Thanks Drc726, I'm going to go for a wildlife friendly planting scheme, i've just bought a pyracantha for the back fence, i'd like to squeeze a butterfly bush in the corner too!

Cottage flower border down the left side which is south facing and a small bit of lawn to keep the mini-mowers happy (guinea-pigs) :) I have this wonderful image in my head but i have no idea how it will turn out in reality!

That sounds good the Pyracantha will give it winter interest to. I think a garden evolves as you do it - you see what you are aiming for in stages. Keep us posted.

I'd been looking for something to fill the back fence and when the conifers came down and let in more light i decided the pyracantha would look lovely there :)
We seem to have a lot of birds around so hopefully they will appreciate it as well!

Thanks and will do! :D

Thank you scottish! Crissue - I know i feel like a kid in a sweet shop sometimes! Can't wait to get planting and see it all come together! :D

Isn't it amazing how reducing height (conifers) makes space seem so much smaller. You'd think the light flooding in would make it seem bigger! I admire your restraint Smoo....waiting to get the soil in good order. Our new build garden (5 years ago now) was turfed over and I simply started to dig bits out and plant things, not having a clue what was actually under there. Thankfully, it has mostly been ok, with the back soil excellent and only nearer to the house is compacted by machinery. OH hired a pneumatic drill to 'dig' out the borders for me...it was that bad! Good luck, your plans sound lovely. I have lots of butterfly bushes now, but sadly, so far, no butterflies! Anyway, enough of me........enjoy! :))

Thank you Karensusan :D
I know it's strange isn't it! I think i'm used to it now though, not feeling so exposed anymore! I'm a bit of a perfectionist which is why we've been here for almost a year and we've only got this far :o! It can be my downfall sometimes but i cant help it hehe. Your garden sounds lovely, i cant wait to see what mine will look like in 5 years :D

Not too long now until i can seed the lawn area so hopefully ill have some update piccies soon!!! :D
