pond in country

Hi Sunburychick
How do you keep your pond clean,my mum as a large pond.the water is really dirty,the bottom as loads of silt.there are kip carp and Rudd,not sure what else.any advice would be gratefully received.your pond or should I say lake looks amazing.

Thank you for the complimates on the pond.Our pond looks really muddy in the spring.We use a product called "Blue Biyu"it comes in a gallon jug. We buy it at a local farm supply store.I think it costs about $ 50.00 US You just pour it in the water.It's a dye.It doesn't hurt the fish or humans.Just pour in a small amount at a time.Don't let it splash on you,you'll be blue.We always swim in the pond,don't be afraid you'll come out looking like a smurf.It mixes up well.I'll post a before and after pic of the pond 2006-2011 The jug will last for a couple of seasons depending on the size of the pond...
