I can honestly say I've never seen anything quite like it - would never have thought of this myself. Looks great.

Hi Frybo...Quite by accident...had to use what was available, haven't done this before either...but glad I did, and they're getting better...For sure I'll consider Grasses again,in displays....So glad you like it...

Until I joined this site Crissue, I hadn't realised there were so many good ideas out there which I hadn't tried and this is one of them.
I have always just used baskets and pots in the summer for bedding plants but now I realise that there are so many other things that can be planted up all year round (as long as the pots are frostproof). Makes the garden far more interesting once summer is over.

Its very true...Here in France we haven't got the variety that you have in the UK...things are getting better slowly, that's why I didn't have a bigger selection + I was late..but it all came good...and these being Perennial Grasses can be used in the garden, or split for next year for other displays...the Zonals can over winter anyway + cuttings taken and grown...I'm sure with your artistic way of putting plants together, you'll produce a stunning display for us all to admire (or copy) lol...

Hi Crissue.
do your grasses make it thru the winter in those pots? here we use annuals, and of course they don't. I will have to try a perennial next year, after I find an overwintering pot for it.
Most pots we drag into the patio, where the rain/snow/ice can't get in the pot and freeze crack it.
I thought I saw a recipe place here, but now I'm not sure.

I think it's under R for recipes rusty - there are several dotted about - have a look at yorkshire's latest photo!

Yes Yorkshire's photo has the photo of the Cooking Recipes...and the blog to follow it....
Anything that's tender, I cover with straw...put a stone on top to hold in place, I have got a couple of tender Grasses bought this year so I will do this for them too...As you know I've only got going phyically in the garden this year Rusty, so the only thing in Planters/Pots were my Box Plants, and the Petunias, which are annuals anyway...I did salvage the baskets, and took cuttings from the trailing Geraniums...The Zonals above are in Baskets, and I shall bring them under cover, and plant them in pots to over winter, and take cuttings...The Grasses I'll plant up in pots also and protect...
