Hi Tasteyg :-D It was a pretty impressive plant! There was a matching one on the other side of the path on the right.

This is a Travelers Tree (or Palm), Ravenala madagascariensis, in the same family as Birds of Paradise (Strelizia), so also has showy white "boat" flowers. So called because travelers can take their machete to it to get water from trunks. I wanted to plant one in Florida, until I found out how much they sucker, forming large clumps.

Thanks for the info Orgratis! Yes, now you say about it, it does look just like a Strelitzia/Bird of Paradise.
