Yes, these are apparently hybrids with Alceas (Hollyhocks) being one parent. I can't recall which plant is the other parent.

Hollyhock (Alcea) x Marshmallow (Althaea)

They haven't up to now, Denise. One of my surviving Hollyhocks blew over, but these are quite sturdy plants - not quite as tall as my Hollyhocks, either.

It Looks lovely :) I've got a couple of hollyhocks growing and the rust on them is so disfiguring, so I hope your hybrids work better :)

So do I, Jennyfer. The other one I got at the same time is supposed to be white, I think. I wish they were a bit taller, though. Maybe they will be next year.

Now I do like the look of these, our white hollyhocks are just covered in rust this year, they will have to go....

They are coming on to the market now, but I only found three colours - pink, apricot and white - and the apricot one was sold out. I haven't seen them at GCs as yet. This was via the net. I looked in the 'Plantfinder'.

I wonder if they will set viable seed. It is certainly one to look out for. thanks for showing this.

Will be interested to see if you think these really are less prone to rust. I gave up on hollyhocks here in damp Cardiff many years ago...

These look lovely Spritz, I`ve never been able to grow Hollyhocks have been told in the past that my soil is too rich.

That's interesting! I hadn't heard that. Mind you, I have self-sown plants growing happily in the gravel path, so there could be some truth in it.

I've never heard of this one, but it's rather lovely. Will have to check out if available in NZ.

Another new plant, Dwyllis. I was told they were bred in Germany. I expect that more colours will be available soon.

I inadvertantly bought one pink malva Park Rondell several years back. It has out performed my Holly Hocks from Whiteflower Farm. The plant is in a hill garden and the stalks are very sturdy and hold up much better than the holly hocs.. its in partial shade where it doesn't get the best of anything-sun, water or soil. It blooms year after year but hasn't spread or reseeded. It appears to be deer proof!! I'm looking to purchase more to replace the holly hocs. The pink or the apricot. Does anyone know of a source that will ship??
