Acer with seed heads growing?

I bought this Acer for my son to place near his Carp pond, I was surprised to see that a few days later seed heads? had grown! I have never seen this before on these type of Acers, my Acers which I have had 20 years have never produced them. Is this common?

I've never heard of seed pods on acers either - strange!

Hi Sheilar, my son planted the seeds but no luck yet. Just looked at your profile and noticed you mentioned bindweed which I battle with year after year, have you managed to clear all of it, do you have any tips you can pass on?

Basically Lawley, just keep digging and pulling, digging and pulling. It got to a point where it was either me or the bindweed - and I won!! It's a long and tedious task, but don't let it win - you'll get there eventually.

This year bindweed has again appeared, but it's coming through from next doors garden. I've had a word with them and they say it's coming from a garden at the back of theirs (funny how I can see it wound around a kerria japonica in next doors garden!). There's no chance I'm letting it into mine either over the fence or under the fence - I'm watching it!!!

Thanks Sheilar, I do usually pull at them just as they start to appear, but this year I have lost the battle as I am re-coving from a knee replacement operation. In fact on my return from hospital the white flowers of the bindweed are weaving there way through the plants! I will get them next year no doubt! Glad your watching them too Sheilar!

Hope your recovery goes OK Lawley and as for the bindweed, well, just get it next year. Regards, Sheila

Never seen seeds on an Acer either, look pretty though almost like a little flower....

As Sheila says, it's digging and pulling...but if you haven't been over run with it...you can put the top still attached to the plant into a jam jar of strong weed killer and let the plant take the poison back to its roots...those roots go a long ways...just make a hole in the jam jar lid to poke the plant through, then bury it...pop something on top to keep curious pets away...hope this helps....:)))
