Cassia fistula - Golden Shower Tree (Cassia fistula (Golden shower tree))

Another view of the Golden Shower tree. It looses most of its leaves before it blooms. Photo taken July 28, 2011.

Camillia:

Yes, the flowers are so beautiful! I wish this tree was more widely grown here. I'm sure it's plentiful in your region as it's native to India and Southeast Asia. There's so many species of Cassia which grow here, however, most species are native to South America, Africa and the South Sea Islands.

Camillia:

I bet it's incredible when they're all in full bloom.

While Cassis fistula is spectacular in bloom....many others are very spectacular, also. Cassia (Senna) spectabilis, it's very species name means spectacular in Latin. It grows very large and when in bloom is breath-taking. The most widely planted Cassia here in San Diego is Cassia leptophylla (Gold Medallion tree) which is native to Brazil.

I think Cassia (Senna) spectabilis takes 2 to 3 years from seed to bloom.
