Hi There,
No I have never protected it in the winter. I have never treated it or fed it. It has just gone absolutely mad since planting it in this position in this garden. This is the first time this year that it has flowered. I did not know the name of the plant and didn't even know that it flowered. We are so pleased with it because it looks quite tropical and that is the kind of look that we are trying to achieve. In the same area of our garden we had a 15 year old tree fern from Tasmania which perished last year because of the harsh winter that we had, and we did protect that, so you can never really know how a plant will react to our changeable English weather. Thanks for your interest, Regards, Steve.
