After much huffing and puffing I finally plonked it in the Border, where it will stay as an Ornament till I find a home for it...:o))))

It would need to be very eye catching Clematis, Summer flowering too...

think a nice climbing rose Crissue would do very nicely, it looks good there but probably you're not to happy with it in that spot - leave it for a while and see how you feel, sometimes I think things grow on you (pardon the pun) and then when you have got used to them being in your eye line you would not move it after all.

Thanks Barbara....OH and I have been looking at it again this morning, and behind the Obelisk are Climbing White Roses, and the new Gertrude Jekyll on that fence line....so a climbing Rose wouldn't go amiss...That is the widest part of that Border as it turns the corner, so I'm not unhappy with it there...and it looks good from all vantage points...and adds height too...
Any suggestions on the Rose...being as you've been trawling the catalougue lately lol ....o))))

I think it looks fine there. I have just bought a climbing rose called Aloha, and although I have it in a very large pot, it is putting out lots of buds, and the scent is heavenly.

Is it in the Catalogue Cinders, if not i'll look it up on Line...thanks very much, love scented Roses....

think a small climber would be best for it, no more than 6ft say. or a tall shrub rose, I have Rosa de Rescht, perfume is fab and it supposedly only grows to 3ft tall but mine is about 5 ft now. it is a real beauty. Of course it depends on which colour you would want in there,Rose de Rescht is described as full flowers of purple-crimson held well above the dense bushy growth. I think that is a v.good description of mine. Lovely perfume too. Google small climbers or tall bush roses and see what comes up. Good hunting Sue, enjoy yourself.

Ooh the Obelisk your hub bought you Crissue, it looks perfect right there, If it were mine i wouldn't grow anything on it, its lovely in its own right. also sometimes i think climbers growing up Obelisk's end up, Bunched together, twining round itself, giving an untidy clump if you know what i mean :) Loving your Cactus daliah there,..

Thanks Youngdaisy...love all the comments and suggestions...For now it will stay as it is...Hubs wants a Rose on it...so we'll see...Glad you love the Cactus Dahlias, they give such a smashing show through till first frosts...Want to move the Red one into a Hot bed, when I find room for one lol...and I have a lovely Pastel pink to replace it with....in the meantime I'm enjoying them...:o))

I've always left them, an old gent showed me how he did his...he cuts them back covers them with their stems, then straw over the top...I now do that with all my Perennials...and he had over two hundred in one huge circular bed....
But I suppose you've got to take into account where you are in the Country...we do get heavy frosts here and snow...but our winters are shorter, and usually less wet...

Thats good Crissue, a lot easier for you. I lift mine, clean them, dry them out then wrap them in newspaper, then into a cupboard untill spring..

I've heard of different ways of lifting and storing, and yours is a good one too...:o))

Thanks Katarina will do, I'm still searching....Hubs wants a Peach old fashioned scented Rose...I found a site in France, but they are closed for August, it's their official holiday time....and lots of places are closed....

I am sure it will be a jewelery. I read in France there you have a lot of old fashioned roses, with very big and full flowers. However, old fashioned scented roses have one disadvantage - usually they bloom shortly and just once in a season.
