Jacaranda mimosifolia - Jacaranda Tree Flowering

This little Jacaranda tree still had some blooms on it...I've noticed this year the Jacarandas are blooming well past their typical spring bloom. They do have a light bloom cycle during the end of summer, though. Photo taken August 11, 2011.

This is a small tree. Jacaranda trees are grown here by the millions...they are very widely grown as a street tree, median tree (almost everyone has at least one). When they bloom in spring the whole city turns blue/purple. All the tourists always want to know what the blue or purple tree is...it's pretty funny!

Yes, it's a very beloved tree here in many cities from southern California up to the San Francisco Bay Area.
