Plumbago capensis (PLUMBAGO CAPENSIS)

The most beautiful of Mediterranean plants in my opinion!
Grown from seed sown in January.

Nice one, will you be treating it as an annual or over wintering inside? they need a frost free environment don't they..

Lovely Meanie...

Very nice & lovely colour!

Meanie:

It's not beautiful when you have millions everywhere! lol! :>) The seeds will attach themselves to everything and anything (you'll soon find out).

Thanks guys!
It's allowed to if it wants to Delonix!

Meanie:

Most likely it won't naturalize there where you live, right?

The gigantic masses of this plant along our freeways here in San Diego look very good mixed with Bougainvillea. It's a very common sight.

I would think it unlikely..............

Meanie:

Do you see the white form 'Alba' there? It's very common here, too.

14 Aug, 2011

To be honest Delonix, Plumbago is not seen too often over here (although it's not rare) as it's not suited to our climate (clearly) and requires that little extra effort. But "Alba" is equally available over here, although for me the blue form is by far the nicer!

Does it grow as an annual or returning shrub?

18 Aug, 2011

It's a tender perennial Delonix. I'll bring it in for the winter.

Meanie:

So, it's a houseplant there. It's very strange for me to think of this plant as a houseplant.

Are they easy from cuttings do you know?

21 Aug, 2011

I believe it's very easy from cuttings.

22 Aug, 2011

That's good to hear - my friends and family are all after one!

22 Aug, 2011

Meanie:

The seeds germinate in the hardest, driest soil here with no problems.

22 Aug, 2011

Very easy from seed - mine isn't giving any up though!

22 Aug, 2011

Meanie:

Well, cuttings are the easiest way to propagate. I prefer cuttings to seeds any day.

23 Aug, 2011

It's difficult to find any shoots without buds at the moment.........

27 Aug, 2011

Meanie:

The cuttings can be started even with buds.
