Very pretty flowers
Medicinal properties - extracts of this plant can, apparently, regenerate the liver!

I only planted it a few weeks ago and it's really growing fast...it's quickly becoming a favourite!
I don't know what they do with it, Pixi, but you can get it in gellules...it's a new herbal wonder remedy!!

Some Desmodium species were shown to contain elevated amounts of tryptamine alkaloids.
Tryptamine is also the backbone for a group of compounds known collectively as tryptamines. This group includes many biologically active compounds, including neurotransmitters and psychedelic drugs
The tryptamine backbone can also be identified as part of the structure of some more complex compounds, for example: LSD!!!!!!!!! lol

Don't know if it's the same species...but the capsules, taken daily regenerate the liver and protect against hepatitis (might be a good idea for Africa...) and other liver problems...detoxify and help with things like loss of appetite and fatigue...am starting to get quite interested now...

Just found out more...It's a different species...
Desmodium Ascendens traditional plant medicine of Central and West Africa, has been studied for 30 years and has been found to be efficacious
In the prevention and treatment of Hepatitis, both viral and C, and other liver conditions (including those caused by alcohol abuse)
As an anti-allergy treatment with particular regard to eczema, foods and asthma
Neuro protection, against conditions like epilepsy and vertigo
Combatting the side effects of chemotherapy, such as nausea, loss of appetite and fatigue
The treatment of stomach ulcers and constipation
It is more or less hardy and is grown from Senegal, all the way down the west coast into Congo and Central Republic of Africa...
...The plant can be dried and used in recommended doses...as either a treatment or a prevention
Couldn't get it at the pharmacy, locally...
I think that I will have to get hold of some seeds in Nigeria...
