I'm standing in front of Washintonia filifera - California Fan Palm

I'm standing in front of Washintonia filifera - California Fan Palm (Washintonia filifera - California Fan Palm)

This California Fan Palm was struck by lightning almost 40 years ago (according to the owner's son at Morton's Botanical Garden). This is when the trunk started curving. This Palm is native to the low desert of the Coachella Valley. Photo taken Aug. 20, 2011.

Palmate:

It's a typical sight on most palms. However, it usually doesn't happen on California Fan Palm's large, stout trunks.
