Bauhinia galpinii (punctata) - Red Orchid Bush/Tree

Wow....you're probably walking around looking at the plants and trees instead of the side walk. I know I would!

Well, many people most likely take this common shrub, tree for granted. However, many tourist seem to enjoy them...as many plant/shrubs/trees here don't grow in many areas of the U.S.

This shrub/tree is native to Transvaal, in northern South Africa. It's a pretty tropical shrub/tree, however, I think it would grow very well where you live.

If you're nice for Christmas, maybe Santa Claus may send some seeds to Greece. LOL! :>)

I'm on Skype with my friend who lives in New Jersey....she is getting everything ready. Hurricane Irene is due to hit where she lives this afternoon....Scary.

Bauhinia variegata, purpurea, forficata, variegata var 'Candida' and, x 'Blakeana' are very widely planted as street trees here.

They are very pretty trees, covered with those flowers :)

That's why they're such a popular street and landscape tree here in San Diego and many other cities in California.
