The colours in this creature fascinate me. It sat still for long enough to have its picture taken. Huge creature.

the first time I saw one Grannyb was in my kitchen and my youngest is very very phobic of anything that can buzz and sting. I was terrified I had no idea what it was but being the good mum (lol) I shut all the doors except the exit door and put out the lights apart from the outdoor light and it flew out. I have become quite used to seeing them now, you can see them coming in over the wood they are that big, they are no problem, never had a sting from one, don't want to either. This sat still for ages whilst I got close enough to take a picture, it does look unreal I agree, but I can assure you it was, brave I am brave brave brave, lol.

Brave, I think you deserve a medal.. GAFB. Goyers Award for Bravery.

Grannyb award gratefully accepted, but it is amazing how we can get used to these creatures which scare the life out of us. I am no longer terrified of spiders, still do not like them but have grown to be able to look and see their beauty and can now put them into a tumbler without feeling sick. lol. (does that warrant a second award or am I being greedy) lol.

Yes, I award you the CDM...Cadburys Diary Milk medal.
I am frightened of wasps, but when my grand daughter comes I have to deal with this fear as we would not go outside and I don't want to pass my phobia onto her.
We had loads of wasps this year, and I noticed they were attracted to a water dish, so I just moved it to another spot and they pretty much left us alone.

I know what you mean Grannyb, if the children see us scared that just passes our fears onto them. My youngests phobia comes from stepping on a wasps nest when she was a youngster she was covered from head to toe in stings, do not think she will ever recover from the shock it was very traumatic for her. Like the idea of the CDM just had a hot chocolate drink which went down well after being in the garden all morning. We have had no end of wasps, think it must have been a good breeding season for them. Had to have an exterminator friend kill a wasps nest in the garden, it was in a birds nest box and they were going like crazy into it. Hate them. Do they have a function in the world? I could live quite happily without wasps.
