This is the stump of our palm tree which like thousands of other people, we lost this year due to severe weather.
When we planted it the height was 15inches and over 11 years it grew to nearly 30ft.(see stump thickness)
But what may be of interest is that we cut it down two a couple of feet ready to dig up, which we did not fancy due to proximity to pond.
However as you will see from pictures the delay as proved to be a bonus as it as started to sprout in several places at the base.
We look forward to seeing how this develops.

Several around here in the gardens have sprouted from the bottom and one or two have euchaliptus trees that seemed to die and have sprouted up the trunks of the trees.

I think fleece is the only protection they could be given for the winter. I was amazed at the violas and pansies that survived being buried in snow for a long time and they still came through and flowered well in the SPring.
