This is a new one on me & very pretty. What conditions does it need to grow happily?

Nothing special I don't think. I have seen it in most conditions and soil types all over the UK. Where mine is gets little sun until the late afternoon but it seems to like being near a wall and a pillar of the pergola. The pergola is 8' and it grows higher than that although most catalogues say 2.5m. I have seen it grown as a feature plant in a lawn where its long arching stems were shown off to perfection. It is from the Himalayan region of Asia and its common name is Pheasant Berry. There is a golden leaved variety as well.

I bought the golden leaf one last year, only a baby in a small pot. I couldn't quite decide where to put it and lost it in our awful winter. Yours lookes lovely...I may have another go at golden leaf:-)

I think I have the golden leaf one somewhere in the garden. Maybe it went the same way as yours. I like it because the long bamboo like stems may die down in winter but reappear in spring.
