This kind of trees are planted all over the city, some white and some pink.

Plant ID is very tricky...and lately many genera and species have been reclassified (which makes it a hundreds times more difficult).
Does Bauhinia x 'Blakeana' (Hong Kong Orchid tree) grow there? It has the larges leaves and flowers of any Orchid tree and is a sterile hybrid (it doesn't develop seed pods).

This is Bauhinia variegata. This tree is very widely planted here in San Diego as a landscape, street tree, also.
