I grow lots of this Bloomer...It will come through the Winter no problem....Perhaps a few handfulls of mulch...be careful it doesnt get nibbled, or stood upon as it emerges next year...:>)

Not sure about winter yet Bloomer - my first year too - let's hope for a mild winter anyway :)))

Thanks Carole,Sticki and Pixi...I thought it would look good there..Just had a closer look yesterday, and a lot of the lower foliage has been eaten by something, and it just looks like a bare stem !
Thanks Moti..In view of my above comment,I am now wondering if I should pot it up for the winter, and keep it in the growhouse till spring..I need to give it a close inspection later,to see if I can see anything nasty on it ..
Does yours look ok Paul? it has only happened over the past few days..

mine's dying off Bloomer - think it has had its time this year

So you think it is just a natural thing then ? I haven't read up about it at all..I suppose that seems logical.I hope that is the reason,Paul...

It will be Bloomer - don't worry - remember it is almost October - I think the weather is the only thing that is confused :D I mean cold all August and near 30 degrees into late September - CRAZY!!!!!

That is reassuring Paul..thanks..I don't know whether we have had a heavy dew this morning,or a touch of ground frost !.All the plants are wet,and the windows on the outside of the conservatory were misted over..like a frost..all gone now,as sun is shining.! It is crazy, but we shall all make the most of it..might be the last .!!!

Like this one, Sandra, very dramatic! ... :o)

Thanks Shirley..another Morrisons special! :o).Had a good look at it today, and can't see anything nasty on it.so guess its just shedding the lower leaves..but none to be seen on the ground, which seems a bit strange..hope its not that sandal eating fox!!Lol.

LOL, Sandra ... you shall have to sit up all night and be on 'Foxwatch' ... :o)

Bloomer, my Lob. Hadspen Purple came thru last two winters and I didnt even mulch. Bought two "Fans" this year, blue and magenta but didnt see a red. Im tempted by the Queen Victoria, might buy it next year and see if it survives! Mind you, I dont live in Yorkshire!!

I think it might be at least, two coats colder here,Tet..but as it is quite small yet,I don't want to risk losing it..or I could mulch it,and put some fleece around the base..I do that with some Fuchsias..but last year, lost two of them....

Ah, you are awake, Sandra! ... Did you see the Fox ... bet you went to bed without giving it a thought ... lol! :o)))
28 Sep, 2011
I slept longer than usual,Shirley..and yes,you are right about the fox..Lol.We have had a lovely day..Anthony's birthday,so we all went out for lunch, along with his parents too..and then a long walk around the Lake there,in the beautiful warm sunshine..called at a pub for a coffee..and the actor who plays the part of "Dev" from Coronation St,was sitting outside with his mates at the next table..He has a fantastic motor bike !
28 Sep, 2011
Oh really? lol Did you speak to him?
28 Sep, 2011
