Flowers are smaller this year and are clustered closer together. Nice to have anything flowering in early autumn, especially when they are fragrant. I'm looking forward to seeing the sepals turn red, they are actually more attractive than the flowers

Absolutely :-D

When will it get the red colouring?

Any time now, the sepals turn red soon after the flowers drop. It's cloudy and rainy all week so hopefully they still turn a nice red color. I'm not sure how much of a factor the sun plays in that.

No, I was wondering that myself, I ought to know by now! Will be interesting to watch the leaves change colour as people send photos in - I'm not sure if Scotland sees the autumn colours before the south of england? Is it the amount of cold or the sun that determines it?

Both cold and sun determine color and when plants go dormant. We haven't had a frost here yet but there is a fair amount of color, still probably 2 weeks before peak color. Moisture also can affect color but not sure if more rain=better color or not. I can't wait to see fall foliage pictures, I'd rather it be Spring or Summer but I do appreciate the colors in early fall.

i think i like autumn best ~ but then i was born in the autumn!! summer can be too hot for me; i love the autumn colours and i can start to enjoy cooking again. its also time to sort out in the garden, i think, like a new term???

I'm just not looking forward to leaf cleanup, snow, ice and a lot of short dark days haha. I do enjoy this part of fall though, the temps aren't too cold yet, the foliage is beginning to turn (and is still in the trees!) and it's a nice break from all the hard-work in summer.

Hard work in autumn here!
The run up to December is of course always busy in a supermarket! Before that I was working in schools - I still think in terms!!

I guess, why that name "Seven son tree"?

You have to look at the flowers closely to see it but they are in clusters of seven.
