WOW! Fabulous!

Ernest Markham himself would have been proud of this one.

It was developed from a seedling in 1937 by Jackman of Woking to commemorate Markham's death and his work in developing clematis as a garden flower.

One more piece of useless information for you to clutter up your brain.

I like that piece of information Inverglen...thank you

Glad you like this one Constance....Its a wonderful Clematis....:>)

27 Sep, 2011

Ah thank you Olive....It just keeps on flowering

27 Sep, 2011

That's amazing for this time of year, isn't it? . . . .

27 Sep, 2011

It is Shirley...I thought it was finishing...next thing it started all over again,...All i ever do is a bit of blood, fish and bone at the beginning of the season, a bit of a prune, then i dump all my pots of spent compost on to it through the Summer and Autumn...(perhaps thats it!!)..its an amazing Clem indeed...:>)

27 Sep, 2011

Well, Motty, you're obviously doing right! ... :o)

28 Sep, 2011

I suppose so.....:>)

28 Sep, 2011

Funny that, Moti I dump all my spent compost from my pots around plants too...

I'ts looking smashing, lots of blooms, I thought Jackmani was doing so well this time year too, but this is stunning...

28 Sep, 2011

Thanks Crissue...I think the spent compost helps condition the soil, doesnt it?...The dark blue Jackmanii is a beautiful Clem.....:>)

28 Sep, 2011

True, why waste it...everything adds...
I think I would like to keep a couple of seed heads from Jackmani...and try and propagate...also another one I have I like very much is Mme Ville de Lyon...you've put ideas in my head....:)))

29 Sep, 2011

Lol....'Ville de Lyon' is a stunner...Tell me how you get on with your propogation efforts Crissue....:>)

29 Sep, 2011

Love to...just tell me when is the right time to take the seed heads off please....I've never tried this before...:)))

30 Sep, 2011

Crissue....I bought the seed and planted them at the beginning of August...I haven't tried sed from the plant, but this site will tell you all you need to know www.clematisinternational.com/seeds.html....Hope you're not disappointed with the info...:>)

30 Sep, 2011

Okay I'm with you Moti...Have had a look on the site thanks. They take months to germinate...I think I prefer to buy the seed lol.....:)))

30 Sep, 2011

I agree...It did seem like a lot of fuss...If you want to propogate one of your existing Clems...Layering is the way to go, don't you think?...:>)

30 Sep, 2011

I agree...too much for too long.. I've got an Alpina, that I moved earlier in the Summer, when OH resited the Arch, I cut it back to about 6 inches above ground...and as well as doing well climbing, it's sent another plantlet out further along the ground, with no help from me...So I think when Ville de Lyon gets going again, as she's been moved to the front fence...I'll try then...Jackmani is at the back of the Woodland, so I'll watch for new shoots, then layer from there....
Did you know that Clematis roots grow all through Winter!!
I had an email from Taylors Clematis, a few weeks ago about planting Clems etc, and that piece of info was in the mail...apparently Clems can be planted for most of the Season, within reason...

1 Oct, 2011

I knew they were able to be planted at any time, except in frosted or waterlogged ground...Didnt know their roots continued to grow...amazing, isnt it?...:>)

1 Oct, 2011

Yes...it is :)))

Couldn't wait to tell you, I went to the GC today to buy another Parasol....the biggest one I could find, I'm so fed up with being driven doors with the heat...
They had just got a new delivery of Clems, and there right in front was Ernest Markham, with two blooms on it.....Straight into my trolley lol...all thanks to you...x
Will take pics of my buys later....

I meant to say, one of the ladies at the GC was commenting on how beautiful the Clem was in my trolley...so I told why I chose it, and all about your blooms, and her eyes widened, so I guess there's another convert...:)))...I am so pleased...:))) spread a little happiness...lol...
