Mirrors in the garden

Mirrors in the garden (Echinacea purpurea)

Meadowland was asking me about what was happening with my 'mirror project'. Ashamed to say 'not alot' at the moment. I've been trying this out as an idea with things I already have, but cant get a nice reflection!!!. This area of the garden looks a bit of a tip at the moment. I was also worried about birds flying into it. So looks like I will put this on hold just for now...

I have mirrors throughout my garden Poppy and have not had any bird accidents......well, only involving the cats.

That's nice to know Lil
I've not had any casualties yet!

Yes, the trellis was supposed to stop the birds flying into it. which they haven't as yet. I currently like the idea of repeating this along the fence so there are three mirrors in total and then growing plants in columns between the spaces. What I don't like is that the house is reflected into the mirrors right down the length of the garden. I'm trying out different angles. Just need a bit more time to get this right - I'll get there in the end!!

Nice thing is, until/if plants are growing around them, you can experiment and switch them up.

Hi Lil, hi Meadowland
I've completely blown the plan out of the window! Went to one of my favourite nurseries today. I was totally spoilt for choice. Not thinking straight as it was such a sunny day and put me in a stupidly good mood. Just about managed to cram large specimen plants in the boot. I now need to decide how to place them. Takes me ages to decide. I like to sleep on it... I took loads of photos so I'll post another blog on it all soon. Hope people don't get bored with all this!!! I still want to repeat the mirrors. I think I may have been ambitious in how much fence there was to cover!!

Thanks for that Lil - I'm glad I'm not the only one! I nearly always plan, before I go to the nursery. Yesterday was no exception, I take my list... and then when I get there I may as well tear it up. Get far too excited!!!

I did buy an acer. Japanese name, can't remember will have to look at the label again. I took it off, it was nearly as big as the tree - hate those! I also bought some lovely specimens at the nursery I went to at the weekend. I'm keeping you in suspense for a little while though, because I have some more photos to show you on my next blog. I am getting so addicted to this!! - Is there a cure???

3 Oct, 2011

Yes, mosaics.... :)

Well if thats the cure Lil!!! .... it sounds like another addiction to me...I think you're on a winner though I love the mosaics you have placed in your garden. It brings a whole new level to gardening. I'm sure you will get a fan club when you show them to the folk at the gc. Let us know how you get on.

Have a nice time plant hunting tomorrow Ml. Let us know what you find. Don't go too mad with the credit card. Mine is hiding now!

Just found this conversation, Poppy. Whatever you decide, I love the colour of the fence!!

Thanks girls. A bit of luck really - the colour of the fence. Now I'm starting to place plants in front of it, it looks even better. I'm also thinking of putting a small shed up by the side of my greenhouse. I like the new england style, so this colour will certainly be used again. Its from the Shades range called 'woodsage'.

Quick update on paint colour - sorry I lied its called Wild Thyme from the Cuprinol Shades range.
