Lovely colouring. I have not seen it as good on the species.

I have seen good fall color on species but I don't think it compares to some of the better cultivars. The ones I notice with best fall color are Alice, Alison, Burgundy and Little Honey. Sometimes my Snow Queen oakleaf is very coloful in the fall too.

It may be down to the damp mild climate here. We generally don't get autumn colour to rank with other places.

Yeah, funny how much a difference temperatures and moisture make. Some years we have great fall color here and other years it's nothing spectacular. This year and last year have been very good, cool dry weather at the end of summer and beginning of fall make for good colors. The oak leaf hydrangeas have been very pretty that I've seen.

Our tree colours were magnificent last year ~ but this year they are not at all good ~ I think its because there was so little moisture in the summer they have dropped their leaves before they even changed colour???

Yeah if plants are stressed enough they drop their leaves early, sometimes they don't even color. It happened a lot at the nursery I worked at, a lot of potted trees would have fall color by August.

Poor autumn colour here this year too. But the berries are generally much better than normal.
