24 Oct, 2011
I'm going to visit my fav nursery tomorrow.....I might have missed a new Clerodendrum.
24 Oct, 2011
Now you have me Alex! Which one?
24 Oct, 2011
A lovely bright colour, not seen this one before.
24 Oct, 2011
No no. I didn't mean a new one that you don't know about. I meant maybe he's bought in new ones that I don't have yet.

DD - Clerodendrum splendens is native to tropical Africa.
Did he have anything Alex?
25 Oct, 2011
I spent my money in town and didn't dare stop off at the nursery!
I found a seller for some fantastic tropical plants (seeds) from South Africa. Do I risk it?
25 Oct, 2011
Do you mean that the seller is in SA? I've just found one too..........
26 Oct, 2011
Yes. Where did you find one?
26 Oct, 2011
It's secret!!!!!!!!!!

....and I said to myself....not too many seeds this winter. ha ha. I have seeds I ordered this summer still in their envelopes. Not long now. Closing up the shops today and tomorrow.
Thanks for your secret. ;o)
26 Oct, 2011
Soooo,,,,,,,,, who is your supplier then???
26 Oct, 2011
exotic-plants.....on e-bay. Some fantastic seeds!!!
Haven't ordered anything from there yet.
26 Oct, 2011
Do you want some Datura metel seeds too?
26 Oct, 2011
I'm sure the white type grows wild here. We usually don't let it grow in our gardens because of the thorny balls.
I pulled one out last week from my garden.

Meanie:
Great photo! To bad you can't grow this outside like I can! lol!:>) Just giving you a bad time! This is a really beautiful Clerodendrum...it's very tropical, though.

Alexandramou:
Datura metel grows wild there, too. It grows along the freeways here in the driest soil (which is like concrete).
29 Oct, 2011
If the glasshouse comes off I'm getting one Delonix!
Datura metel grows wild in my garden too!
29 Oct, 2011
Look at that...something all three of us have in common. Datura metel growing wild.
29 Oct, 2011
Are you having a glasshouse put up Meanie????
29 Oct, 2011
A little more elaborate than that Alex (maybe)!!
29 Oct, 2011
Sounds interesting.
Did you have a look at exotic-plants on e-bay. Did you find it? I couldn't find it when I just typed exotic-plants but it is a supplier...just have to go find it another way.
29 Oct, 2011
Type exotic plants ebay - took me straight there.
29 Oct, 2011
Yes, but did you get into the right one???
29 Oct, 2011
This one?

Lol...that's the one. A little different but the same. There are some plants on sale from Cyprus on this one. Having a look now.

Ever think about starting orchids from seed?
29 Oct, 2011
Not really viable Alex - you will need to be sure that they have been pre-treated, and as a rule they need to be sown under almost laboratory conditions.
29 Oct, 2011
Read up on orchid seeds....
I think buying the plants is the way to go.
I will just have to buy them from other countries.
29 Oct, 2011
You're correct, Meanie. Sowing orchids seeds is for the experts with a very hot greenhouse.
It's much, much cheaper to just buy orchids in bloom, at least you'll know what you'll end up with (as far as color).

Meanie; Alexandramou:
Have you seen the very dwarf Phalaenopsis hybrid orchids available for sale where you live? They're in every store here, now. They're actually very cute! :>)
30 Oct, 2011
Delonix raises a good point Alex - the other problem with orchid seeds is that if there is a whiff of a hybrid in the parents then there is a very high chance that the seedling will revert back to one of the grandparents (if that makes sense). Even creating your own hybrid is hit and miss.
We have the mini-mini Phals here in the UK Delonix - I nearly picked one up the other week. But they all seem to be very lacking in roots - I wonder if this is how they hold them back?
30 Oct, 2011
Not even thinking about orchids seeds anymore!!!
Burst my bubble the two of you...;o))))
I will just have to make the orchid suppliers rich then.
30 Oct, 2011
Sorry!!!!!!
30 Oct, 2011
Alexandarmou:
Yes, Sorry! I'm not sure how inexpensive orchids are there, I know they can be very cheap here. Some of the newer named hybrids grown in the better nurseries can be quite expensive, though.
