How pleasing to watch this mature.

Hello Denise, will look OK in about 10 years time. These are ornamental trees rather than the native ones I have elsewhere. Think I'll just keep it hoe'd and tidy before setting shade loving shrubs under the potential canopy. These trees have taken alot of wind this summer plus lack of rain. I'm worn out with the watering, walking around with watering cans.

Someone has been very busy weeding there! What will you do with the earth around the trees Dawn? Meadowland? Bulbs? Woodland plants? Look forward to seeing the next 'phase' it looks great so far!

Rained all day today Pansy ..... at last, been weeks since we had a decent amount.

Hi Meadowland, yes it will be nice to see it grow, if I live that long.

Karen, I just hoe it - nothing to damage at the moment, so quite easy, just get a few blisters through my gloves.
The plan next is to have woodland bulbs around under the trees but then lots of azaleas and rhododendrons but need a shade canopy for them to enjoy first.

It would Sandra ..... looks like it will be a case of grow more and, compost mulch and manure, lol. A local garden centre owner said to me once that he was asked by a customer when is the best time to set a tree? His response was - 10 years ago.

It will happen Dawn , some will grow and spread quicker than others ,year by year you will see a change , do you remember me telling you about our friends with a garden like yours well they planted all their own trees and they have now reached the stage where they have started sawing some trees down for firewood because they have grown so big and are cutting out the daylight for the smaller trees /shrubs ,having said that it has taken 40 years LOL...
