Lulu the seed is in the pod about the size of a Peanut. You can have a few if you like,(let me know if you want them) fancy having your own Magnolia Soulangeana form from seed, it would be Unique a one off! I know someone like that.

Ooops sorry Brian, I meant do I put seed in pot!!!
B, I have put my salvia into a dark and dry feedroom for the winter...do you know if I cut them right back and will they need water. I remember working with the clems in their polytunnel...they had no watering all winter.

Not sure about being in the dark,If temperatures stay mild it will continue to grow even if you prune it,and if it is growing even slowly it wont want to be bone dry.If I remember correctly that Clem polytunnel most plants stood on damp gravel so roots would take up some moisture from that.
Its the dark bit that concerns me because if it does continue to grow the it will soon become drawn and weak.
The seed pod is slowly opening, will let it open naturally, there is another strange phenomenon I would like to record as it does so watch this space.

Oh dear, dark is all I got unless a heater goes into that huge glass house!

Lulu
I would wrap it around with a thick coat of straw
(I imagain you have plenty) and put it in the glass house It would be cheaper to buy a new plant than keep it heated,

Bjs , did I miss something ? what was the seed ?

DRiad
It is Magnolia Soulangeana.

Just moved the Salvia back outside, as not too cold. If the boss heats the greenhouse then I will move them in there, if not...bubblewrap and straw...what a palava!

Lulu next year take some cuttings,When you visit next spring will show you how and when then they will over winter in the house when it is very cold, and leave the large one where it is. some are pretty hardy anyway.

Meadowland, LOL. I had the same impression, lol. But was ashamed, reading those beautiful ethereal impressions of others :)
Of course, magnolia seeds. Each year I have to clear those seeds of neighbour´s tree from my grass.
