This is the cleared area behind my greenhouse, by the frog pond. The mother has had only one for the last two years, but this year, twins again. This year and next garden devastation will double. But they are grand creatures to have around.

I guess these are responsible for eating your lovely rose?
Never mind, they are beautiful too :)

They are grand creatures, thanks. But not at all gentle. This mother is most dangerous with these children in tow. She would stomp you flat. I'm shooting from behind the greenhouse. :-) When they looked at me, I went back in. These are the culprits for eating the garden this year, and each year. But they don't like everything, so I've been just going with it. I wont be putting in an 8 foot fence. :-)

If I buy, I'll be immediately putting in a tall wood fence. I love nature close, but the moose and, really, more peoples dogs are really a pest for a gardener. As many or more dogs in Alaska than people and seems that everyone likes them to be free, so they come to my yard and make a mess. Right now I have a Big malamute, a blue healer (sp?), a Pomeranian, a boxer and a golden retriever, that all visit daily or more. I'll have to plan the fence on a down slope, so I can see over the back, I want a large area for that garden.

I sympathise with your plight re the dogs, as at the moment we don't have a front fence up. But thankfully in New Zealand dogs are not allowed to roam free off the owner's property & that law is strictly enforced. Of course there are always going to be irresponsible owners who don't care & let them roam loose anyway, but they get a huge fine if the dog is caught & if the dog threatens or attacks anyone or another pet, it is in danger of being destroyed on the spot. Moose .... mmmmm .... I think I might be erecting high fences too. My OH built a high fence to close off our back garden area, as soon as we moved in, so that our little dog had a safe area to play in, & gives us privacy & added security too.

I like the privacy of the fence, and the wooden fence may increase the warmth I can catch as well. I love that we have great freedoms here in Alaska, but i don't appreciate the dogs. :)

It really is Katarina. And enormous, from these hills you can see the mountains over 200 miles away across just wilderness.

Aren´t you afraid? To be so far from all advantages of the civilization? Are you zoologist or something similar?

I am in a large neighborhood called the chena hills outside Fairbanks, about 80,000 people, hospital, airport. We all live with this rustic wildness along our front steps. That is the way here, other than in the city. Looks much more remote than it is.

Yes, must be more peaceful life then in big cities. What about volcanoes, are they far from you?

They are pretty far. They run along the coast line near Anchorage and south through the panhandle. That is almost 300 miles and on. Flood is our danger as we are a river city.
